Presidential inauguration season greeting
Good morning, everyone, it’s a pleasure to be here.
Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to attend the inauguration of the president of ○○ University.
Today is the opening of the heavens. It is not just a national holiday, but a day that is more meaningful than any other national holiday, because if it were not for this day in the past, there may not be any other national holiday or anniversary, and even we would not be standing here. It makes me reflect on the beginning of Korea and its infinite history.
As we gather here today, we look forward to forging a new path for our university together, a path that will not be accomplished through individual glory, but through the collaboration and dedication of all of us. Universities are institutions that accumulate knowledge and wisdom and contribute to society. However, amidst the changing needs of society and the rapidly changing educational environment, we need to consider our new role and mission.
Recently, the university environment in Korea has been changing rapidly. We are approaching a situation that is unprecedented in Korea’s history, where the number of applicants for admission to universities is lower than the number of seats available. Universities are shifting from a supply-oriented to a demand-oriented environment.
With this shift, our universities can no longer settle for the old ways of doing things. It’s time for creative and innovative approaches. The challenge we face is not just about numbers, but about the essential role and future of universities. We need to think deeply about how we can make our students’ college experience more fulfilling and meaningful, and how we can train them to continue to grow and contribute to society.
I intend to manage the university with ‘happiness and sharing’ as the core values during my tenure in order to clarify its identity while effectively responding to these changes in the university environment. The reasons for choosing ‘happiness and sharing’ as the core value for the management of ○○ University are as follows.
First, because everyone wants to be happy. We were born to be happy. As Korea’s constitution has the ‘right to pursue happiness’, we have the right and duty to be happy while living on this earth.
I believe that the pursuit of happiness should not just be an individual issue, but should be an important value for society as a whole. This university should not just be a place to teach academics, but a place to explore the meaning and value of life together. I will strive to create a school where students and staff are happy: no students struggle with tuition fees, no faculty and staff are dissatisfied with the educational environment, and no students are unhappy. I will create a variety of programs so that students can experience as much as possible at the school.
It is important that we create a culture of understanding and care for each other in our pursuit of happiness. Universities should not only be halls of knowledge, but also places where different values and perspectives are respected and harmonized, which will be the foundation of our shared happiness.
There is a proverb we all know: ‘You get beans where you plant beans and red beans where you plant red beans.’ It means that if you need beans, you need to plant beans, and if you need red beans, you need to plant red beans. It means you can’t reap what you don’t sow.
If we need happiness, we need to plant happiness, and that beautiful mission of planting happiness and sharing it, that’s the first suggestion I make to the members of our university, and that’s the challenge I’m going to take on during my presidency.
To realize this mission, we need to come up with concrete plans and actions, and open up a space for all members to participate, so that we can practice the value of sharing and, more importantly, empower ourselves to bring about positive change in our society.
To the faculty, staff, and students of ○○ University, and to the guests and dignitaries who are here to honor us, I ask for your active participation and support so that we can best implement the core values of ‘happiness and sharing’ through our curriculum, educational environment, and educational services.
We invite you to happiness! Thank you!
Student Council President’s Season’s Greetings
Good morning, we live a new day every day. As we live each day, a month passes, and then a year. It’s already November, and fall is coming to a close. We’re sad to say goodbye to one of the most beautiful seasons of the year.
In the days ahead, we’ll have more choices to make, more regrets to deal with, and more self-doubt than ever before, but I can promise you this. No matter what choices you make, if you don’t make them, they will have no consequences. Doing nothing will produce more regret and long-lasting self-pity than failure. You never know what your choices will produce. 2011 is almost over, but it’s not too late – it’s only a new beginning.
Dear classmates!
I have many things I want to do as the president of ○○ University, and I have always had a vision of the school in my mind. The school I envision is a school where I can contribute to the development of my classmates.
Everything happens through people. I think it is very important to build a network of people as much as it is to build knowledge, and I will support the development of my fellow students by helping them build a network of people.
I will also lead and revitalize the student government in a democratic and autonomous way, communicate freely with my classmates, and grow the precious seeds planted by the first and second seniors.
○○ has produced more than 10,000 graduates in the past 10 years. I will work with graduated seniors to support the formation of an alumni association, so that this is not just a place to pass through, but a centerpiece of ○○ University where valuable connections last.
Whether you are still in school or after graduation, we will support your personal development and revitalize the student government so that you can feel proud of yourselves. Based on this pride, ○○ University will grow strongly.
Dear classmates, I am so proud of all of you who are here. We may have different reasons for continuing our studies, but I believe we are all in it for the same reason: to better ourselves. We promise to be a student organization that strives to help you achieve all that you want.
Thank you.
Presidential Inauguration Presidential Season Greetings
Honored members of the ○○ University family!
Time seems to be passing by faster and faster, even though the hands of the clock are moving at the same speed. As technology advances and we are bombarded with information, our daily lives are changing just as rapidly. So here we are, at the end of July 2012. I’m very excited to be here with you today as we prepare for a new beginning. The passage of time forces us to reevaluate things we may have taken for granted, and in doing so, to reflect on the true meaning and role of our university.
Normally, we hold our inauguration in September, but I asked for it to be a little earlier because I wanted to get back to the real work of the university once the second semester started, and I’m excited to use this time to resolve new goals and calmly prepare to put them into action.
However, if I had known that we would be doing it in this sweltering heat, I wish I could have put it off a little longer. As if to show off the fact that it’s July, the breeze is stifling today. But even this heat is a challenge for us, one that we must overcome. After July and August, there will come a time when the cool fall breeze will tickle our nostrils again. Until then, let’s enjoy the heat now. We experience all seasons and there are things to learn from them, and isn’t that what makes us stronger?
Dear ○○ University family!
We are now facing new challenges. Admission resources are sharply declining due to the declining birthrate, the phenomenon of concentration in metropolitan areas is accelerating, and social pressure to reduce tuition is intensifying. These changes in the external environment place great pressure on us, but they are also opportunities to make us more creative and flexible. We need to think outside the box, and overcome these challenges with new ideas and approaches.
The qualities and needs of students are more diverse than ever, and society’s expectations of graduates are getting higher and higher. The external challenges to universities go beyond competition among universities and demand a new paradigm for higher education. With the development of information technology, the lectures provided by universities are now competing with educational content from around the world in real time. In order to keep pace with these changes, our universities must find ways to communicate with the world and cultivate global talents, which will not only raise the status of our universities, but also provide a better educational environment for our students.
In order to overcome the current crisis and fulfill the essential mission of the university, we need to make comprehensive changes and reforms. Therefore, I would like to initiate a new transformation that will build on the foundation of the progress that ○○ University has made so far, and each of you will play a very important role in this process. We need to work together, and we need to work towards a common goal.
All members of the university, including myself, are now tasked with the continuous development of the university. I ask you not to be afraid of change and to work together for the new future of the university. To this end, I promise to provide all the support I can as president of ○○ University. Our efforts will never be in vain; the future we dream of is in our hands.
○○ University is a loving educational community.
Let’s encourage and comfort each other and overcome difficulties. If we are together, we will be able to overcome any difficulties. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again and ask for your expectations and support as we continue to walk together.
To the guests of honor at home and abroad who love and support ○○ University, to those who pray for ○○ University, and to the faculty, staff, and students of ○○ University, thank you very much for attending and congratulating me on my inauguration.
Inaugural Presidential Season’s Greetings
Honored members of the ○○ University family! How are you?
I woke up this morning with a thought. Time flies by so fast, doesn’t it? Time is a tricky thing. As we get older and appreciate time more, it seems to go by even faster. And so it is that this year, we are already in the middle of November, and we have entered the chill of winter. Now we are entering a time of reflection as we wrap up the year. It’s a time to reflect on our place and role in this ever-changing world.
Times seem to change so quickly: technology innovates every year, trends change in an instant, and people’s thoughts and behaviors change just as quickly. In this whirlwind of change, it’s rare to find a person or organization that has remained true to its values since its inception. But we can create schools that remain true. I believe that embracing change while maintaining unchanging values is the true power of education and the mission of a university.
Over the past 47 years of our history, ○○ University has evolved into a leading regional institution, and while many changes have occurred, our commitment to serving our students has remained constant, thanks to the hard work of our professors, staff, and all of our constituents. This commitment is what makes us who we are and will continue to serve as a beacon to guide us in the future.
Now we are facing new challenges. Admission resources are sharply declining due to the declining birthrate, the concentration of students in metropolitan areas is accelerating, social pressure to reduce tuition is intensifying, and students’ qualities and needs are more diverse than ever. In addition, society’s expectations of graduates are getting higher and higher. The external challenges to universities go beyond competition among universities and demand a new paradigm for higher education. With the development of information technology, the lectures provided by universities are now competing with educational content from around the world in real time.
What should we do in the face of these challenges? In order to wisely overcome the crisis facing universities and fulfill the essential mission of universities, total change and reform are necessary. Therefore, I would like to build on the foundation of the progress that ○○ University has made so far and initiate new changes that will strengthen the university. Change is not something to be feared; on the contrary, change will enable us to achieve greater growth.
First of all, we will build a flexible academic system that can respond appropriately to the diverse needs of society. We will actively support each college to specialize according to social needs. In the curriculum, we will not only equip students with creative problem-solving skills based on basic competencies and expertise, but also strengthen character education to cultivate people who practice love through service and service. Such education will empower our students to go out into the world and express themselves confidently.
Now, all members of ○○ University, including me, have been given the task of continuing the university’s development. I ask you not to be afraid of change, but to gather your strength for the new future of ○○ University. To this end, I promise to give you all the support I can as president of ○○ University. I look forward to the changes and growth that we will all create together.
This is your university and your educational community. Let’s encourage and comfort each other and overcome difficulties. To the guests and dignitaries who love and support ○○ University, to the professors, staff, and students who pray for ○○ University, let’s make ○○ University the best school with our dedication and love. When our efforts and dedication come together, the fruits will be more valuable and brilliant.
Thank you.
Alumni President’s Inauguration Season’s Greetings from the Alumni President
We love the word beginning. It’s certainly exciting to make plans and prepare for something new. But I think it’s even more exciting to see the results of that preparation. New challenges give us goals, and we grow as we move toward them. Because it’s not just a plan, it’s the culmination of our passion and hard work.
It’s already November. It’s time for a mid-year review before the year comes to an end. What you started with such excitement, are you on track, or are you just starting and then putting it off for tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow? What you start and don’t finish is like a scribble on a piece of paper: it’s not worth anything until you fix what’s wrong and add color to it. Creating and executing a plan is like climbing to the top of a mountain, one step at a time. The view at the top is the culmination of our efforts, and it gives us the strength to keep going.
We want to finish with as much excitement as we started with. By finishing what we start, we can be confident in our abilities. This confidence will be an important asset that will lead us to success in the rest of our lives.
And to all the professors, students, and distinguished guests here today!
It is a great honor for me today to serve as the proud president of the ○○th Alumni Association. I would like to thank you for entrusting me with this task, and I will do my best to contribute to the development of our alumni association. This position is more than just a title. It’s about building on your trust and doing everything in my power to take our alumni organization to the next level.
As you know, our alumni are the golden nuggets of talent that the world needs right now. They are everywhere, playing important roles and fulfilling their responsibilities as part of society. The skills we’ve built are now indispensable to transforming society and creating a better future.
In the meantime, the fields we’ve learned have grown from humble beginnings to play a leading role in making the world more convenient and beautiful, and from what we hear, they’re becoming some of the most sought-after fields right now. This streak will, of course, continue, proving that our hard work hasn’t been in vain, and we should all be proud.
I don’t think there’s any other history school in Korea or anywhere else that has produced so many important people, but our alumni, especially this one, have been embarrassingly underrepresented in the early years, but we are where we are today because of the dedicated work and service of our grateful past presidents, professors, and executives in developing our alumni association.
We give them a round of applause. I think we have it all now: a growing alumni base, a cohesive organization and executive board, an alumni office, and a large number of alumni in the professions that we need in this day and age.
I will continue to be active in the development of my alma mater and the creation of scholarships for students who are learning. Our future depends on the students who are learning now. It is our responsibility to help them achieve even greater things after us.
I conclude my inaugural speech by reiterating my commitment to revitalizing the alumni association. Alumni, have a great year. I hope that your enthusiasm and dedication here today will serve as a starting point for us to take our alumni organization to even greater success.
Thank you.
Sample seasonal greeting from a university alumni association president
Dear members of the ○○ University Alumni Association! How are you?
We’ve reached the halfway point of the year. Or, perhaps it’s more accurate to say we’re nearing the end. Time is flying by so quickly. With the arrival of fall, our minds turn to the joy of harvest and reflecting on the time that has passed. For farmers, the fall harvest is the culmination of a spring and summer of hard work. Those who tended to their crops and sweated tirelessly will reap a larger, more substantial harvest than those who didn’t. The same is true of our lives.
When we reach middle age, near the end of our lives, we are solely responsible for what we have. Even the lines and wrinkles on our faces tell the story of the life we’ve lived. Just as your summer was beautiful, I know your fall will be beautiful, too. You are who you are today, and we, the Alumni Association, are who we are, because you have lived your lives to the fullest.
Today, it is my great honor to serve as the proud president of the ○○th Alumni Association. I would like to thank you for entrusting me with this important task, and I look forward to doing my best to make a difference in the future of our organization. I am also looking forward to the years ahead as we lead together.
As you know, our more than 15,000 alumni are the golden nuggets of talent that the world needs right now, and of course they will continue to be for years to come. I am proud to say that there is no other school in Korea or anywhere else that has produced so many important people. Let’s continue to support each other to further shine the light of this great history that we have made together.
I believe we have it all now: a growing number of alumni, a cohesive organization and leadership team, an alumni office, and a large number of alumni working in the professions that our time demands. The power of our alumni association is only truly unleashed when we are all united.
Going forward, I will build on this and work with the executive team to create activities that our alumni can participate in and feel rewarded and proud of. We will also actively work to develop our alma mater and provide scholarships for students who are learning, which I believe is our social responsibility and an investment in our future.
The income we can harvest in the fall depends on how much sweat and hard work we put in during the spring and summer, and how hard we lived during our younger years is what we will reap in our middle age. I believe that our alumni are now reaping the rewards of their hard work in the name of success in various fields of society.
We look forward to your continued efforts. Let’s achieve greater goals together, and let’s raise the name of our ○○ University Alumni Association and ○○ University. As president, I will do my best to maintain and further develop the name of our alumni, and your continued interest and support will be a great help.
I wish you all good health and happiness, and I hope we can achieve even greater things together in the future. Thank you.
Example of an inaugural greeting from the alumni president
Dear members of the ○○ University E&T Alumni Association!
And professors, current students, and distinguished guests!
It is a great honor for me to stand here today and serve as the proud president of the E&T Alumni Association of ○○ University. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you for entrusting me with this important role, and I promise to do my best to develop our E&T Alumni Association.
As you are well aware, alumni who have graduated from the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications at ○○ University are the core talents that are urgently needed in the current era. It has been 43 years since we graduated our first class of electronics graduates in 1968, and since then, the field of electronics and information communication has undergone rapid development from the vacuum tube era to semiconductors, information and communication, and artificial intelligence, and we have always played a leading role in this process. The fields we have learned are not just advancing technology, but contributing to making human life more convenient and beautiful. They will continue to do so in the future, and our alumni will be at the center of it.
I am confident that there is no other private institution in Korea, or indeed anywhere else in the world, that has produced so many important individuals. However, it is also true that in the early years, our alumni association was frankly embarrassingly underdeveloped, as I am sure some of you in this room have realized. However, thanks to the dedicated efforts and service of our past presidents and other faculty and staff, our alumni association has come a long way, and I would like to take this opportunity to give them a round of applause.
Today, our alumni association has it all. We have a growing number of alumni, a well-structured organization and executive team, and an office that allows us to operate in a stable manner. We are also proud of the fact that so many of our alumni are active in the field of e-communications, which is the need of the hour.
Based on these foundations, I will work with the management team to implement various activities that will make more alumni feel rewarded and proud. In particular, we will actively work to develop our alma mater and establish scholarships to support current students’ studies. We will strive to make the alumni association not just a group of graduates, but a community that can create greater value by fulfilling its social responsibilities.
In closing, I would like to reiterate my promise to do my utmost to revitalize the alumni association. I wish all of you alumni good health in the new year and success and happiness in everything you do.
Thank you.
